Το θέμα της άρσης επικινδυνότητας της Βρίσας, βρέθηκε στο επίκεντρο του ενδιαφέροντος, κατά την διάρκεια συνέντευξης Τύπου που παραχώρησαν από κοινού, ο Περιφερειάρχης Βορείου Αιγαίου, Κώστας Μουτζούρης και ο Δήμαρχο Δυτικής Λέσβου , Ταξιάρχης Βέρρος την Παρασκευή 18 Ιουλίου 2025.

Σε ερώτημα που υποβλήθηκε, ο κ. Βέρρος έκανε ξεκάθαρο ότι θα πρέπει να ασχοληθεί με αυτό το πρόβλημα η Αρχαιολογική Υπηρεσία του Υπουργείου Πολιτισμού, ενώ επισήμανε ότι έχουν υπάρξει πολλές πιέσεις δεδομένου ότι έχει υποβληθεί και κοινοβουλευτικές ερωτήσεις.

Υπενθυμίζεται ότι ο σεισμός στην περιοχή της Βρίσας εκδηλώθηκε στις 12 Ιουνίου 2017 και έκτοτε ίσχυσαν τα προαναφερόμενα μέτρα. Η άρση της επικινδυνότητας που ακόμη δεν έχει επιτευχθεί σημαίνει ότι  απαγορεύεται η διέλευση από το χωριό και η λειτουργία οποιασδήποτε επιχείρησης μέσα σε αυτή. Για το γεγονός αυτό έχουν εκφράσει την δυσαρέσκειά τους δεκάδες φορές, φορείς και εκπρόσωποι της περιοχής.

Βέρρος: Εάν δεν ασχοληθεί η Αρχαιολογική Υπηρεσία του Υπουργείου δεν γίνεται

«Η άρση επικινδυνότητας αυτή καθεαυτή είναι των τμημάτων του Δήμου και της Περιφέρειας περί πολιτικής προστασίας. Γίνεται μία κοινή συνεδρίαση και  αποφασίζεται, είτε να κηρυχτεί επικίνδυνο είτε να αρθεί. Αυτή τη στιγμή εκεί που έχουμε φτάσει είναι  ότι έχουμε πρόβλημα στα κτήρια τα οποία εποπτεύονται από την αρχαιολογική υπηρεσία. Πρόκειται για 3, το κακό είναι ότι βρίσκονται σε πολύ κεντρικούς δρόμους. Τα υπόλοιπα αν δεν κάνω λάθος έχουν κατεδαφιστεί και έχουμε τελειώσει. Και αν δεν έχουν κατεδαφιστεί – ένα δύο αν δεν έχουν κατεδαφιστεί – θα τα κατεδαφίσουμε εμείς  εφόσον είναι ιδιωτών, οι οποίοι δεν βρίσκονται να τα κατεδαφίσουν. Από εκεί και πέρα δεν νομίζω να υπάρχει στην Ελλάδα υπάλληλος Τεχνικής Υπηρεσίας να υπογράψει την άρση επικινδυνότητας ενός δρόμου ή ενός οικισμού όταν υπάρχουν ετοιμόρροπα κτήρια. Διότι αν το κάνει και πέσει μία πέτρα και χτυπήσει – όχι σκοτώσει- ένα παιδί θα ζητηθεί η κεφαλή του επί πίνακι και νομίζω ότι το καταλαβαίνετε. Θα πρέπει συνεπώς και η αρχαιολογική υπηρεσία – όχι εδώ εξ Αθηνών, δεν έχουμε  κάτι με την εδώ δεν μπορεί να κάνει κάτι, τα χρήματα έρχονται από Αθήνα- να τελειώνει με αυτή την ιστορία, ώστε να μπορέσει να ανοίξει το χωριό. Διότι την 17^η Ιουλίου για παράδειγμα βγάλαμε 3 οικοδομικές άδειες, τριών δημοσίων κτηρίων της Βρίσας – οπότε είμαστε έτοιμοι να ξεκινήσουμε να τα φτιάξουμε. Θα φτιαχτεί η παιδική χαρά τώρα, μέσα στις 27, ο βιολογικός απ’ ότι ξέρω έχει ξεκινήσει, θα τελειώσει κάποια στιγμή (..) Εμείς δεν μπορούμε να ζητήσουμε χρηματοδότηση. Αυτό το γυρεύει η Αρχαιολογική Υπηρεσία (..) Θεωρείται ότι μπορεί να υπάρξει μεγαλύτερη πίεση; Τρεις πολιτικοί αρχηγοί έχουν υποβάλλει ερώτημα στην Βουλή γι’ αυτό το θέμα. Τι άλλη πίεση να ασκηθεί; (..) Εάν δεν ασχοληθεί η Αρχαιολογική Υπηρεσία του Υπουργείου δεν γίνεται (..)  Εάν δεν ήταν στους κεντρικούς δρόμους θα ήταν πιο απλά τα πράγματα. Θα μπορούσαμε για παράδειγμα να κλείσουμε έναν δρόμο και να πούμε δεν θα περνάτε, αλλά είναι πάνω στον κεντρικό» είπε ο Δήμαρχος Δυτικής Λέσβου, για το συγκεκριμένο ζήτημα.

Issue of the Ministry of Culture’s Archaeological Service regarding the lifting of Brisa’s danger designation

The issue of lifting the danger designation of Brisa was at the center of interest during a joint press conference given by the Regional Governor of the North Aegean, Kostas Moutzouris, and the Mayor of Western Lesvos, Taxiarchis Verros, on Friday, July 18, 2025.

In response to a question, Mr. Verros made it clear that the Archaeological Service of the Ministry of Culture must deal with this problem. He also pointed out that there have been many pressures, given that parliamentary questions have also been submitted on the matter.

It is worth recalling that the earthquake in the area of Brisa occurred on June 12, 2017, and since then the aforementioned emergency measures have been in effect. The danger designation has yet to be lifted, which means that passage through the village is prohibited, and no businesses are allowed to operate there. Numerous local stakeholders and representatives have repeatedly expressed their dissatisfaction with the situation.

Verros: If the Ministry’s Archaeological Service does not get involved, it cannot proceed

"The danger designation, in and of itself, falls under the jurisdiction of the municipal and regional civil protection departments. A joint session is held, and a decision is made either to declare the area dangerous or to lift the designation. At this point, where we currently stand, the problem lies with the buildings under the supervision of the Archaeological Service. There are three such buildings, and the issue is that they are located on very central streets. The rest, if I’m not mistaken, have been demolished and we’re done with them. And if one or two have not yet been demolished, we will proceed to demolish them ourselves if they are private and the owners are not present to do it.

Beyond that, I don’t think there’s a single public works engineer in Greece willing to sign off on lifting the danger designation of a street or settlement when there are still buildings at risk of collapse. Because if they do, and a stone falls and injures – not kills, just injures – a child, their head will be on the chopping block, and I believe you understand that.

Therefore, the Archaeological Service – not the local office, as we have no issue with them, but the one in Athens, since the funding comes from there – must bring this matter to a close so that the village can reopen. On July 17, for example, we issued three building permits for public buildings in Brisa – so we are ready to start reconstruction. The playground will now be built around the 27th, and as far as I know, the biological treatment plant has started and will eventually be completed (..)

We ourselves cannot request funding. That is up to the Archaeological Service (..)

Is there any greater pressure that can be applied? Three party leaders have submitted questions in Parliament on this matter. What more pressure can be brought to bear? (..) If the Ministry’s Archaeological Service does not get involved, it cannot move forward (..)

If the buildings weren’t on the central roads, things would be simpler. We could, for example, close off one road and say no one should pass through it. But they are located right on the main street,” said the Mayor of Western Lesvos regarding the issue.
